As the Earth strives to birth an awakening, Lama is doing its best to meet this birth, to be receptive to co-creating with this mountain and to the deepening of “Toward the One”. The current planetary condition asks of us to heed the great call of repair, return, and remembrance:
-of our meaning as human beings,
-of our sacred role and responsibility in the greater web of life
-to the creation of rhythm, harmony & balance within ourselves.
This year, we turn our focus inward to community, stewardship of the land, care of home, and spiritual practice. We are intentionally using our holy schedule as a container and teacher to allow access to the spirit of guidance that is Lama Mountain.
We aspire to move closer to the aspects of Lama that embody a school—an institute providing conditions that may allow for the blossoming of the human spirit. The lama resident circle and stewards will join together as students, developing the capacity to work on the physical plane in the context of love, service, and remembrance.
The prime focus of the Lama Foundation is “the awakening of consciousness, individual & collective”, to which the Foundation is dedicated. These activities include conscious community living and developing a relationship with our “inner architecture” through spiritual practice. Thus, our work has been towards the purification & exaltation of the soul.
The curriculum provides the space and opportunity for commitment. A commitment to awakening consciousness within ourselves. A commitment to self-knowledge, right relationship, creation care, and stewardship. To take steps towards dissolving separation, to walk toward wholeness, toward the One. Toward the unfoldment of our true selves and the remembrance of our original instructions. We will expand our vessel to hold the expanse of Love, Harmony & Beauty. Holding with reverence the elements as our teachers and kin. We are offering the subtle space to repair the Greater Home, as spirit, soul, body, shelter, and community.
Former residents, old Lama beans, and other lovers of Lama will be offering spiritual practices throughout the summer as part of our summer institute experience.
This is a summer of renewal. A time to focus on the foundational elements that support The Lama Foundation. We have made a call to Lama’s extended community to help us with this work and invite you to join us. This includes many exciting projects focused on the repair and maintenance of existing infrastructure, land work, and water work. Some of these projects include installing a rainwater catchment system, repairing ancient water catchments above the spring, rebuilding the spring house, clearing oak for fire mitigation, exploring dry farming techniques, adobe plaster repair, adobe work, and fixing water leaks.
The summer institute program will begin May 23rd & continue into September.
Water and the Lama spring
Water is Life, and here at Lama, all of our water comes from a beautiful mountain spring, which was a common stop on the historic Kiowa Peace Trail. Last fall, we experienced a water shortage, so a major focus of ours this summer is to create infrastructure, such as a rain catchment system, to help us diversify our source. We are committed to being a water-conscious community. This includes limiting showers and their duration. We also use composting/pit-style outhouses and use rainwater for irrigation. Our water is precious; during every meal, we bring awareness to our spring water and bless ourselves with it. It is important to us that anyone who visits Lama has deep awareness and respect for water.
