Join us for five days of Silent Meditation alternating with Zikr and Dances of Universal Peace, integrating active practice with meditation, a deep and joyful experience.

“The Dances of Universal Peace and Zikr are an excellent way to prepare for meditation and meditation is an excellent way to prepare for the Dances of Universal Peace and Zikr.”

— Murshid Samuel Lewis

This potent practice combines the power and resonance of the Zikr Circle /Dance Circle with the profound calm and abiding insight of the meditative state. It is our goal that this integrative approach will move us toward a grounded balance of Serenity, Insight, and Awareness. The teachings and transmission of Hazrat Inayat Khan and Murshid Samuel Lewis will be woven into the context of the retreat.

Pir Shabda Kahn began his root training in 1969 under the guidance of the great American Sufi Master, Murshid Samuel Lewis. Since 2001, Shabda serves as the Pir (lineage holder) of the Sufi Ruhaniat International, the sufi lineage tracing back though Murshid Samuel Lewis and Pir-o-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan. In 1972 Shabda met his second great teacher, the late Master Singer, Pandit Pran Nath, and began the daily practice of North Indian classical music in the Kirana style. He now teaches vocal music and performs Raga singing and is the director of the Chisti Sabri School of Music. He worked closely with the great American Mystic Joe Miller. He is also a disciple of the illustrious Tibetan Buddhist Master, the 12th Tai Situpa Rinpoche. Shabda brings warmth, humor, and clarity in his efforts to help seekers on their Path to Awakening and Service.

Halima and Abraham are senior mentor teachers in the Sufi Ruhaniat and Dances of Universal Peace International. They are Inspired musicians and experienced guides on the path of the Awakened Heart,  tapping  into the depth that comes from a lifetime of integrating spiritual practice, psychological exploration, and a love of the natural world. They travel and teach internationally, returning home to Massachussetts and their local Sufi Center, SAMA.  Halima met and danced w Murshid SAM in 1969 in the early Marin CA. Sufi Dance circles.  He is her root teacher. Abraham took Bayat with Murshid SAM in early 1970.  Both Abraham and Halima have been active spiritual practitioners since then. Some of their life heart allies include Moineddin, Wali Ali Meyer, Frida Waterhouse, Karmu, Murshid Hassan, Salvador Roquet, and Pir Shabda Kahn. Abraham first met Shabda in 1969 in the spontaneous Ashram generated by Baba Ram Das in Franklin NH. Abraham lived at Lama in 1971, helping build the first Dance Circle at Murshid Sam’s Maqbara. They are both delighted to return to the sacred land of Lama.
