Facilities/What does my tuition cover?

Your tuition rate consists simply of the amount of money that it costs Lama Foundation to “take care of you” and the teacher’s honorarium. Once you get here, you will have no out of pocket expenses, unless you choose to buy something. Lama Foundation does not generate income from your tuition, but will greatly benefit from and treasure your invaluable contribution towards this year's building projects.

Lama will provide vegetarian meals, the apprenticeship class and teachers, showers and washroom facility (includes biodegradable soaps and shampoos), laundry service, free clothing exchange, extensive library, and a wide variety of community gatherings.

Lama also provides limited phone access, phone message service, and limited computer internet access. In general cell phones do not work at Lama, but you can drive into Taos for decent reception. You can also receive mail or arrange for UPS/Fed Ex deliveries. One of Lama Foundation's defining characteristics is its quiet and rustic beauty. We live intertwined with the surrounding natural environment.

For sleeping arrangements, you will need to bring your own tent and sleeping equipment. There are numerous tenting sites available, from close proximity to others to remote locations, and most of the summer community sleeps in tents. As one of the early groups to arrive, apprentices will have early choice of the nice spots. Most people do not spend much time in their tents outside of sleeping, but in "Lama Central".

There is a “Central” area where the community congregates, with an industrial-sized and really cool kitchen (see image), washroom/showers, meeting rooms, library, music room, woodshop, and meditation room. The mountainside is filled with nice nooks and crannies which make for hikes of all distances as well as solitude. You may bring musical instruments, art equipment or anything else that will feed your heart while you are here. Please keep in mind that communal storage space is limited.
