Alis Plastering with Carol Crewes
July 2-3
$50-$75 Sliding Scale

"Alis", or "clay paint", is a beautiful natural finish plaster for interiors. With a base of powdered clay and other natural ingredients, you use natural pigments to create a rainbow possibility of colors. Easily applied with a large paint brush, the finish is plaster-like, and moreover, it is completely non-toxic and natural. Natural builders throughout America use Carole Crews' alis recipe with great success. Come learn from the source! No plastering experience necessary.

Raised in the Taos area, Carole grew up making mud pies and later earned an art degree from University of Texas, Austin. She found the materials from the earth preferable to those packaged in stores and explored clay surfaces after her first adobe building experience. She went on to build a 16 ft. diameter adobe dome and made her living coating many Taos walls with clay alis. She has taught in Natural Building Colloquia for over a decade and her book is due out next spring if all goes as smoothly as clay.
