(December 18, 2000) With six months to go before it starts, emails requesting information about Build Here Now 2001 have been received from all across the USA (including Alaska) as well as Australia, Japan, Canada, Hungary, Belgium, Israel, Argentina, Austria, and Estonia (and possibly more; it's hard to tell sometimes where a person is by their email address.) We're excited that international participation continues to increase each year. |

Greetings from Lama Mountain! Lama Foundation will host its third consecutive Build Here Now on June 10 - 17, 2001. It will once again include natural building techniques, creative design, and permaculture projects. As an optional opportunity for this year's event, the Lama community will offer a series of workshops that address community-building skills such as communication, mediation & conflict resolution, and consensus building. These workshops are an offering from our resident body and available to all Build Here Now participants. I am enclosing a preliminary list of proposed projects for Build Here Now 2001. We plan to have a more complete general outline in January. If you would like to lead a project or presentation, you will need to discuss it with me very soon. Your friend, Kasey Mitchell, Lama coordinator Possible building projects: ¤ Finish straw clay infill, mud plaster, stone trombe wall, and earth floor on last year's new residence ¤ Finish plaster on the now-occupied Kanaat ¤ Address the sauna ¤ Earth bag dome ¤ Build a production green house (strawbale or hybrid) ¤ Install another composting toilet ¤ Building impact analysis ¤ Water catchment and cistern Design possibilities: ¤ Old kitchen / flag dome ¤ Retro community center greenhouse ¤ New larder retro ¤ New access road to spring house and upper meadow ¤ Redesign current parking lot Permaculture: ¤ Garden terracing ¤ Road drainage ¤ Stonework ¤ Fire/wind breaks |
