There was a primary project; a few smaller projects; and many presentations and discussions. The main project, which ended up being dubbed the "Tree House" for obvious reasons, was this structure: an unmilled-timber-framed, straw-bale infill two-room affair with an attached greenhouse, adobe mass-wall, loft space, masonry heater... the works.






Reviving "old" skills is often a focus of large natural building events. That's admirable, particularly for those who are building on a more leisurely pay-as-you-go plan. While much of the activity at
Build Here Now! made little or no use of power tools and heavy machinery, the heavy timbers and short schedule made their use on certain aspects of the Tree House project sensible. At the root of it all, remember, was the fact that the residents of Lama needed this structure.
