Lifting the Barriers to Spiritual Intimacy The human being is called ensaan in Arabic, a word whose root meaning suggests intimacy, uns, as well as forgetfulness, nasiaan. The Sufi tradition teaches that there is never a lapse in the divine grace that is showered on humanity. Any restriction to experiencing that grace is due to our own lack of receptivity . This retreat will explore the Sufi approach to observing and transcending individual fixations that restrict spiritual intimacy with the Divine Presence. We will explore the teachings of classical Sufi literature on this theme and apply those teachings in meditative and introspective practices.
