Come Oh Come Up the Mountain!

If you are interested in spending time at Lama, there are several different ways to do so. We can welcome you for an hour, a day, a week, or a year or more. We have a wide variety of programs to offer. Here is a brief overview. Please click on the links to get more details.

Visitors. Come up to check out Lama. Take a walk, share a meal or even stay a night or two. During the summer months (mid-May to mid-September), Lama is a beautiful place to camp. There are times when our schedule does not allow visitors, so please phone 575-586-1269 to arrange a visit. Click here for details.

Retreatant. Lama offers a variety of spirit-based retreats with truly inspiring teachers during the summer months of mid-May to mid-September. Click here for the summer program calendar.

Hermit. Lama has two private hermitages offering rustic seclusion. We provide food and guidance when needed, and have supported many hermits in their personal retreats from 2 to 40 days. Click here to go to the Hermitage section of the web-site.

Summer Steward. The Summer Stewardship Program is a chance to become a full-time community member for the summer months. Its focus is creating and caring for community and the spiritual practice of service. For those who may be considering longer-term residence or those who are simply wanting a taste of life at Lama, the program offers an opportunity for full immersion. Click here for details.

Permaculture Internship. The Lama Foundation is invested in cultivating a harmonious relationship with the land including the growing of its own food. Come help us realize this dream! This summer-long program will give interns a chance to be part of the lama community in a unique way. Through the lens of permaculture we will focus on creating a holistic food system tailored to site, climate, and the living communities who live on and from the land. We will move through aspects such as garden planning, soil health, crop rotation, irrigation methods, use of appropriate plant varieties, food preservation, season extension methods, seed saving/selection, water catchment, beekeeping, and cultivating gratitude for all that the earth gives. Click here for further details.

Family. Lama is currently reviewing possible Summer '11 dates of arrival and periods of stay for families. If you have any specific questions on this matter please contact Megan at megan@lamafoundation.org.

Full-time resident. For those interested in spending a winter at Lama and stewarding the land, residency at Lama Foundation is a life-changing experience. Residents commit to one year of service at a time each autumn. To start the process, it is highly recommended that you be present at Lama Foundation as a summer steward no later than August 1st.
