About the Hermitages

Length of Stay

. Length of stay may vary from two or three days up to two weeks, depending on the nature and purpose of the retreat. We recommend that hermitage retreats over 2 weeks be guided by a spiritual teacher.

Our facilities:

Both hermitages are equipped with small propane burners and wood stoves, cooking implements and an assortment of staple foods (grains, rice cakes, dried beans and legumes, cereals, seasonings, honey, teas…) sleeping mattresses, bedding, meditation cushions, lanterns, and other basic supplies. We provide some uncooked food which you can cook yourself in the hermitages. In season fruit or veggies can be provided. Teas and coffee are available. For health code reasons, no meat is provided.  If simple vegetarian food does not meet your food needs, please bring your own special food.

Composting toilets are located in separate structures outside the hermitages but nearby. Community members will “check in” with hermits on request by leaving notes at designated places and times, assuring that fresh water, fruits and vegetables are available during the retreat.

Lama is a wilderness experience. Expect outhouses and no running water in the hermitages. There are oil lamps and candles. As with any wilderness area, we have many critters around that co-exist with us which can possibly include bears, deer, elk, various mountain cats, chipmunks, rats, mice, spiders and non-poisonous snakes.

Our hermitages are intended as personal retreat spaces for solo hermitages.  We wish to maintain the solitary quiet energy of these spaces.  We do not allow use for couples, families or groups to use the hermitages, or simply as housing during a regular stay at Lama.
